Scenic driving route around Norfolk

Taking the route to Norwich you’ll pass along the lovely riverside village of Thorpe St Andrews and enter Norwich near the home of the Canaries (Carrow Road). One of Norwich’s most famous landmarks, Norwich Castle, was built by the Normans as a Royal Palace 900 years ago. Explore the Castle’s history as a palace and later as a prison, and enjoy fabulous collections of fine art, archaeology, and natural history as well as the Royal Norfolk Regimental Museum collections. Norwich Castle has a secure car park underneath it in the Castle Mall car park.

Leaving Norwich you’ll head via Reepham. Reepham is a beautiful market town and home to a quaint pub renowned for its live jazz in the summer, clothing boutique, antique shop and a lovely selection of cafes. Not far from Reepham is Blickling Hall. Nobody ever forgets their first sight of Blickling. The breath-taking 17th century red-brick mansion and ancient yew hedges sit at the heart of a magnificent garden and historic park. The landscape, with its hedges and narrow tree-lined lanes has changed little over the centuries and is quintessentially Norfolk. The countryside is a hive of hidden activity, made up of farms and woodland, cattle and sheep, barns and cottages; all contributing to the rural charm of the surroundings.

A short cross country drive from Blickling brings you to Wroxham, the heart of the Norfolk Broads. The riverside at Wroxham is a popular spot to sit and watch holiday makers go by expertly navigating their large cruisers under Wroxham’s small bridge. A popular Norfolk attraction is Wroxham Barns where you can buy many traditional Norfolk crafts and treats.
